Private Excursions

We are an outfitters company that provides private island excursions. We have a unique knowledge of the island as our family history began on Sapelo in 1755. We keep our outings to small groups, which make for a special day of historical insight and open discussions. Our private guide service utilizes 4WD vehicles which allow exploring during inclement weather regardless of road conditions, this includes treks to the north end of the island.

Believed to be the oldest Live Oak in existence The Medusa Tree (1400-1600 years old)

With a family legacy crossing four centuries we have an unparalleled historical knowledge of Sapelo island. After forty years of sojourns to Sapelo, Peter and Miriam finally retired to Sapelo carrying forward an ancestral connection that goes back ten generations.

Peter has a great passion for American history and in particular, Georgia history. He has spent years reviewing private source material regarding Sapelo’s history and its people. Now as an outfitter he enjoys acquainting others to the extraordinary saga of Sapelo.  Peter has spent over 25 years with the Department of Defense as a senior operations analyst. He has lived and worked in remote locations and adverse theaters throughout the world. Retiring to Sapelo, he now enjoys placid days meeting new friends that share a passion for exploring history. Peter’s wife, Miriam, is the 9th generation to enjoy a wondrous life on Sapelo. Where others may see it as remote, she finds tranquility and repose. Miriam’s ancestral bond to Sapelo began with her lineal descent from the Scottish Clan Chiefs, John Mohr Mackintosh and his son William Mackintosh, who were awarded King’s Grants of more than 1000 acres on Sapelo in 1755. Since then, every generation has been represented on Sapelo. Miriam grew up hearing her grandmother’s countless stories of life on Sapelo and from there the seed was sown.

Miriam is a celebrated southern writer and has authored several successful books. She has had book tours throughout the U.S. and Canada with well-known publishing houses such as Time Warner. One of her most noted books, Mrs Dunwoody’s Excellent Instructions for Home Keeping became a southern staple in many households.
